Just like humans, animals too suffer from pain and structural dysfunctions. They too can suffer from injuries due the activities they participate in. Our osteopaths will assess each and every joint in the body for quality and range of movement. They will then encourage the joint to move and manipulate where necessary, to ensure that the animal is at its optimum. In some instances, we have found animals to respond better to osteopathy better than humans!
What do we treat?
In animals, just like humans we do more than just backs. We can help with things like:
Gait problems
Impaired performance
Changes in behaviour due to pain
Arthritis and other degenerative conditions
Stiffness in the older animal
Keeping animals who are competing at optimal performance
What should I expect?
On your first visit, the osteopath will take a history noting its past and present history. We will then examine the animal osteopathically looking for abnormal muscle and joint feel. Depending on what we find, we will then treat the animal. Once the treatment is complete, we will then discuss what we have found, what we did and any possible precautions you may need to take. You may also be given some exercises to help keep the animal supple.
Do I need a referral for my vet?
Yes. It is illegal for us to treat without first getting prior permission from your vet. We may also contact your vet prior to the treatment. A letter of permission to treat osteopathically will suffice.
