Ergonomic s is the relationship between an environment and the worker. An ergonomic assessment involves an assessment of the work area(s) with a view to tailoring it to suit the needs of the individual’s body shape. This may be in front of a computer, in a factory or even whilst driving. Whilst the term is usually common in the office environment, ergonomics of everyday items also play an important role in injury prevention.
Occupational injuries account for 350 million working days lost a year in Britain. Having a workstation assessment or making changes at work can mean that an employee is not suffering, but an added benefit for the employer is that a happy employee is a productive employee and less time off work.
